LARP is an acronym for Live Action Role Playing. Some people refer to it as theatre games. If you've ever played tabletop games, you know your character has weapons, armour, items, skills, and so on. LARP takes things one step further. While you still have many of those items, instead of rolling or telling the dungeon master what you want to do, you simply do it (to a degree, of course). Things are done in real time, and you actually have armour to wear and weapons to carry. This is explained further in the rulebook.
Yes! Please join us! The more players there are, the more fun we have. This is a very social game, so bring your friends and come join us. If you have questions, or aren't sure what type of character you'd like to play, please feel free to contact us and we'll do our best to help you.
Unfortunately, because play can be vigorous and the topics covered in the game can be quite dark with sometimes mature themes, we have to enforce the fact that IA is an adult game with adult content. Players under 16 are not permitted without a guardian participant who must be with them at all times.
The liklihood of this happening isn't very high, but it is a possibility. If you have any medical conditions that could be exacerbated, please let the plot team know beforehand. There are boffer weapons involved, as well as packets, and all of these things will make contact with your body at some point. Does it hurt? It shouldn't. If it does, let the other player know. We're here to have fun, not take trips to the hospital.
Yourself! That's really the only thing you need to bring (aside from the $5 playing cost). If you want to enhance the experience, get some period clothing (garb / costume) and a boffer weapon. Some races do have costume requirements, so be sure to follow those to the best of your ability. You'll also want to bring some water and trail mix for one-day events, as we rarely have the time or place to stop for a meal.
Can I play an evil wizard bent on taking over the world?
Um... sure? Well, sure you can, but why would you want to? This game is built arount the concept of, "If you can think it up, you can play it." What does this mean? You certainly can play that evil wizard that's trying to take over the world. But you need to realize that people don't always like those evil wizards and may do everything in their power to stop them, including the other players. In short: Whatever you decide to do, be prepared to live with the results of those actions.
